"Blue Health Bags and Money Bags" posted May 29 - 4:10AM EDT by Mr.Damage
If you want to change the look of the health bags in game but don't like the look of the white bags (see news post below) why not try the blue health bags skin. The good thing is that the skin is in a pak file (pak3) and it includes a blue money bag skin as well as green cash wad skin for Bagman.
Easiest way is to extract the files to your desktop. You will then have a flame_armor/flaming_armor folder with a pak2 inside. Just copy and paste that pak2 into our kingpin/main folder. If you already have a pak2 just rename this one to pak3 or pak4 etc.

"Custom Cypress Hill Sound Pack" posted May 23 - 6:58PM EDT by Mr.Damage
If you are looking for some different Cypress Hill sound loops to listen to when you play Kingpin then why not download the replacement ones put together by Stroppa.
They replacement sounds are:-
cypress = Dead men tell no tales (album: Cypress Hill 4) cypress2 = lil putos (album: Black Sunday) cypress3 = Clash of the titans (album: Cypress Hill 4) Cypress4 = Looking through the eye of a pig (album: Cypress Hill 4) Cypress5 = whatta you know (album: unreleased & Revamped)
The files are all in a pakfile (pak9). If you don't already have a pak9 file in your kingpin/main folder then you can simply extract it to there. If you already have a pak9 file, extract the pak9 file from the zip to a temp directory, rename it to a number you don't have (i.e. pak3, pak4 etc) and then copy it to your kingpin/main dir.
You can download these Cypress Hill custom sounds from here.
"Rags2Riches Mod" posted May 21 - 6:31AM EDT by Mr.Damage
Here is another mod to enhance your game experience :)
The Rags2Riches Mod was made by VGames and has many features:-
A texture pack that will enhance and sharpen all skins and textures in the game including the menus.
All enemy health amounts have been edited to make the weapons more devastating.
The maximum ammo that you can hold in your inventory for each weapon has been doubled except for the Flamethrower and the Grenade Launcher (Flamethrower max has been set to 900 and Grenade Launcher to 48).
Ammo pickups for the bullets have been increased from 20 to 26 and for the flamethrower have been increased from 50 to 100.
The clip size for the pistol has been increased from 10 to 13 rounds.
The player standard health has been set to 50 and the max health is now 100 which makes the game harder and more realistic.
Weapon mods never break or wear out but now cost more then they did before.
Weapons now cost more then they did before.
The Heavy Machinegun without the cooling mod fires like the Heavy Machinegun with the cooling mod originally did, and the Heavy Machinegun with the cooling mod has almost no break in between it's 3 round bursts. EPIC!
The Tommy Gun's recoil has been halved and the HMG's recoil has been reduced.
Shotgun reload time has been slightly shortened.
It's a little easier to blow off body parts so now it takes one good shotgun blast to take off someone's head instead of 2 or 3.
Pawn shops now sell all items no matter what map you're on so now if you got the cash you can buy whatever you want at the very first pawn shop in the game. THUG LIFE!
Flamethrower now shoots fire twice the distance it originally did.
The "get cash" cheat now gives 1000 dollars instead of just 100.
New blood splats and bloodpools.
Explosions from rockets & grenades don't gib bodies anymore.
Rockets now do more damage and are no longer weaker than the grenades.
You cannot blow off body parts with the pistol, magnum, silenced pistol, or the tommygun.
Rocket Explosions are now bigger than the grenade explosions.
Make sure you read the enclosed readme for install instructions as you have to back up your current gamex86.dll file.
You can check this mod out and download it from VGAMES ModDB page here.
"Widescreen Patch And Enhanced Graphics" posted May 20 - 6:03AM EDT by Mr.Damage
So you have just bought Kingpin (see previous news post)and you're looking at ways to improve the look of the game. Well you're in luck as there are a few add-ons you can install which will enhance the game.
Firstly there is the Kingpin Multi Patch Program Utility which was created by Captain Death.
The utility contains three patches for the Kingpin - Life of Crime RETAIL executable and the GoG version and 1 patch for the Kingpin - Life of Crime STEAM executable.
For the RETAIL executable and the GoG version you get:-
1) Console fix - This patch prevents the console from being cleared which also clears any chat text. A couple of mods send the clear command when a player spawns for no good reason. It also disables the condump command that gets sent along just before the clear command.
2) Screen resolution - This patch allows the video mode 6 to be changed to another resolution other than 1600x1200. A few common widescreen resolutions have been included as well as a new 5:4 resolution for non-widescreen LCD monitors. The original 1600x1200 resolution can be restored. The menu entry for mode 6 is also updated to reflect the chosen resolution. If you pick a resolution your monitor does not support, Kingpin may still start, but the screen will be in a window and not fullscreen. After changing to a supported resolution, you will need to go into the Kingpin Visuals menu and pick the fullscreen option then accept changes to go into fullscreen. To use the new resolution you must either set gl_mode to 6 by editing your config.cfg file, or from within the Visuals menu choose the last resolution option that will be changed to whatever was chosen in the patcher. You will need to do this for every mod directory if you want it for every mod or just delete the config.cfg in every directory EXCEPT main and the config.cfg will automatically be copied by Kingpin from main when you run a mod. You only need to do this once.
3) Audio frequency - There is a bug in the Kingpin audio startup code that locks the output frequency to 11025KHz. The s_khz CVAR remains at 11 even if the value is changed then the audio restarted. This patch allows a frequency to be chosen regardless of the value in s_khz. Available frequencies are 11025, 22050, 44100 KHz. The original startup code locked to 11025 KHz can be restored.
For the Kingpin - Life of Crime STEAM executable you get:-

There is a readme included with loading instructions so make sure you have a read of that. As always when you make a change to a file, in this case the Kingpin.exe, make sure you back it up first.
You can download the Kingpin Multi Patch Program from here - here.
If you are looking for enhanced graphics then you should know that Roarkes has used QeffectsGL to enhance the graphics for Kingpin:-
I modified how textures and how the effects look, by tweaking QeffectsGL. For example, the fire, the lights, brightness and the bloom effects. Also, the muzzle flash of the guns in the game is changed. But of course you could tweak the effects, making it look better of worse. I plan to make some decals to go with QeffectsGL, when the player or the characters in the game fire their weapons and leave a mark on the wall.
To install simply copy the files from the archive (QeffectsGL_readme.txt, opengl32.dll and QeffectsGL.ini) in the Kingpin directory, where your Kingpin.exe is. After you run the game, a log file will appear (QeffectsGL.log). You can read it to see if you have any errors. To uninstall, just delete the three files.
You can download the files from his MODDB page here.
You can also read more information there about his enhancements to the graphics and see several screenshots showing the different effects.
I have also uploaded the files to our Miscellaneous downloads section here.

"Where To Buy Kingpin" posted May 19 - 7:11AM EDT by Mr.Damage
Most digital download sites now sell Kingpin. IMO the best one to buy it from is GoG.com. The GoG version is DRM free and you don't need any third party software running in order to play it. Of course you can also get it from Steam and the cheapest place to get Kingpin looks to be Desura.
If your looking for a Kingpin CD there are a few places you can get it such as Amazon.com or ebay.
If you buy the CD version you'll need the v1.21 patch which you can grab from here.
"Roarkes Is ThinkingOf Making A New Mod" posted May 13 - 4:51AM EDT by Mr.Damage
Roarkes is talking about making a new mod for Kingpin. But as he is more familiar with Half-Life modding he is going to make it there first. He is asking for some information from people that have worked in both Kingpin and Half-Life for the similarities and differences between the two games. If you have something to add you can respond to his forum post here.
